ODA MUST PUBLISH BUDGET TO KEEP GAMES ON TRACK

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 7th Jun 2006

Commenting on the publication of the Olympics Park Masterplan, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson on the Olympics Dee Doocey, said:

"I welcome the announcement today detailing the final blueprint for the Olympic Park.

'But we must not forget that the Olympic and Paralympic Games are not just about those few weeks in 2012. We have been promised a legacy for London: thousands of jobs, world class sporting facilities, improved transport links, new open parkland, better disabled access and a healthier nation.

'In order to ensure that London benefits from the Games we must enshrine this legacy.

'It is essential now that the ODA publishes the complete budget for the building of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We need to know where the milestones are so we can continuously monitor them to keep the Games on track and on budget. Londoners must not be asked to pay more."
