Open the pages of any glossy magazine and black and Asian models are conspicuous by their absence. You can count those who have made it on one hand. The fashion world has been rocked by the size zero debate and now a number of model agencies are admitting that racial discrimination in the fashion industry is just as widespread as eating disorders.

A steady trickle of punters drifts in under the watchful eye of the security guards at the door to sign on or check out the jobs on offer, while determinedly upbeat staff hawk advice and training courses to anyone who'll listen. At the touch of a button, purple computers print details of the latest vacancies on strips of shiny paper.

Housing - Tackling under occupancy

London continues to face an acute housing shortage. While the London Mayor has made some progress in identifying the extent of the housing problem, I am concerned that few steps have been made towards increasing levels of affordable accommodation for families in most dire need.
